More Than a Program… It’s Family!

A space built for people who want to fight for their health, confidence and families.

You’ll move forward with a small group of beginners, all starting from scratch.

Week after week, you’ll grow stronger, physically, mentally, and as a team.

And by the end, you’ll feel more confident handling conflict, and more importantly, you’ll want to keep going.

Because once you’ve built real connections and momentum…

showing up feels less like effort, and more like coming home.

This is the kind of environment that makes you WANT to level up, not just for 10 weeks, but for LIFE.

Meet your coach:

Coach Mark started teaching jiu jitsu in Richmond back in 2009.

He earned his black belt under 5x World Champion Eduardo Rocha, a direct student of Royler Gracie.

After years of study, he returned home to Oakley, not to open a franchise, but to build something real.

Growth Mindset Collective was born in a garage and has grown into a full academy inside Raley’s Center.

But our roots haven’t changed:

This is jiu jitsu for people who want more.

Your Program Includes:

BJJ History

Get a short, exclusive video each week on the origins and values of jiu jitsu.

Self Defense Foundations everyone should know

Master key positions, escapes, and controls, with a private video library to review every technique you learn.

Certificate of Completion

In the final week, you’ll take on a small challenge to demonstrate what you’ve learned, and earn your official certificate.

What Our Students Say

Real Experiences, Real Growth

Real feedback from the parents, kids, and adults who have trained with us

If you’re someone who truly wants to change, and ready to commit for just 10 weeks, I will help you enter that “new era”.

Over the years, I’ve seen 2 kinds of people:

The ones who show up… feel that fire again. They sweat. They grow. And they never want to go back.

And then there are the ones who keep waiting.

  • Until they lose weight first.
  • Until the right time.
  • Until they “feel ready.”

But the truth is… they never start.

And months or years later, they’re still sitting in the same spot, wishing they had.

Spots are filling and limited, and once they’re full, registration closes until next time.

FAQs

  • Do I need to be in shape before I start?

Starting jiu jitsu for the first time can feel intimidating, so we’ve answered the most common questions we get from beginners just like you.

  • Is this program good for people with no experience?

Yes. This program was built specifically for complete beginners. You’ll be learning alongside others who are also starting fresh.

  • Will I be thrown in with advanced students?

No. Everyone in this 10-week program is a beginner. You’ll progress together at a steady pace, and never be expected to keep up with people more experienced than you.

  • What if I have an injury or bad knees?

Safety is our top priority. We teach with proper technique, clear instruction, and plenty of modifications if needed. Let us know your concerns and we’ll work with you.

  • What’s the schedule?

Classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 PM at our Oakley location. That’s 2 sessions per week for 10 weeks.

  • What should I wear?

Just come in comfortable workout clothes for your first session. We’ll provide guidance on uniforms and gear as you go.
