About Growth Mindset Collective

Growth Mindset Collective is a family-owned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in Oakley, California. Our mission is to empower children and adults through martial arts, education, and community.

We believe jiu jitsu teaches much more than self-defense. It develops discipline, confidence, resilience, accountability, and a lifelong growth mindset.

We're looking for motivated individuals who want to become part of our team and potentially pursue a future in martial arts instruction.

About the Position

This is more than a traditional front desk job.

You'll help create a welcoming, organized, and professional academy environment while learning how a martial arts school operates.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with people, takes initiative, and is interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, competition, coaching, or martial arts as a career.

No previous jiu jitsu experience is required. We will train the right person.

Responsibilities

• Welcome students and families as they arrive.
• Answer phone calls, emails, and general membership questions.
• Help prospective students schedule trial lessons.
• Follow up with inquiries and assist with new student enrollment.
• Maintain a clean and organized academy, including cleaning and sanitizing training areas.
• Capture photos and videos during classes for social media, following academy media policies.
• Assist with basic social media content creation.
• Help prepare for academy events and activities.
• Learn academy operations, student service, and instructor-support procedures.

Instructor Development Opportunities

We're building a team of future jiu jitsu leaders.

Employees interested in teaching will have opportunities to develop through our internal instructor apprenticeship pathway.

• Academy Apprentice: Learn academy operations, customer service, jiu jitsu fundamentals, and coaching principles.
• Assistant Instructor Candidate: Upon reaching blue belt and demonstrating appropriate teaching skills, employees may become eligible for an assistant instructor position.
• Youth Instructor Candidate: Upon reaching purple belt, employees may become eligible to teach designated youth classes after completing required certifications and teaching evaluations.

Advancement is based on technical proficiency, professionalism, teaching ability, and available positions—not belt rank alone.

Qualifications

• Must be dependable, punctual, and professional.
• Friendly and comfortable communicating with adults and children.
• Willing to clean, organize, and assist wherever needed.
• Comfortable learning basic computer systems and social media tools.
• Able to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback.
• Interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and participating in the academy community.
• Willing to complete required training and screening for roles involving children.
• Prior martial arts, customer service, teaching, or social media experience is a plus, but not required.

Schedule

Two assigned days per week, approximately 3:00 PM–7:00 PM, with additional paid training or development hours as required.
