KIDS JUDO IN OAKLEY, CA
Confidence, Discipline & Real Martial Arts Skills
Our Kids Judo program helps children develop confidence, coordination, respect, and resilience through one of the world's most proven martial arts.
Students learn how to move their bodies, work with partners, overcome challenges, and develop real grappling skills in a safe and structured environment.
Whether your child is completely new to martial arts or already training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo provides valuable skills that carry over both on and off the mat.
WHAT IS JUDO?
Judo was founded in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano and has become one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the world.
The word "Judo" means "The Gentle Way."
Judo teaches students how to use balance, leverage, timing, and technique rather than strength alone. Children learn how to safely fall, control their bodies, work with partners, and execute throws and takedowns in a controlled environment.
Today, Judo is an Olympic sport practiced by millions worldwide and serves as one of the foundational arts behind modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Today, Mr. Chan holds the rank of Second Degree Brown Belt under Kevin Butler at Tri-Valley Judo and has competed throughout California, including tournaments in Los Angeles, Fresno, Monterey, San Jose, and Modesto.
Beyond the mats, Mr. Chan is committed to serving his community through volunteer work, church programs, and food drives.
His teaching philosophy focuses on developing strong fundamentals and helping students understand that successful throws rely on proper timing, balance, and positioning—not simply strength.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE MAT
Growth Mindset Collective runs structured, coached sessions — not open mat chaos. Every class has a plan, every round has purpose, and every student is accountable to the group.
STRUCTURED ROUNDS
Classes follow a consistent format: warm-up, technique instruction, positional drilling, and timed live rounds. You always know what's happening and why.
COACHED SPARRING
Instructors stay on the mat during live rounds — calling corrections, adjusting intensity, and making sure every roll is productive and safe.
EGO-FREE CULTURE
Experienced students are expected to develop newer ones — not dominate them. The mat culture here rewards technical growth, not gym politics.
